The Carr Center has served nearly 20 children to date who are delayed in reading skills. Although the program is open to children of all ages, most attending are grade 4 and below. We recently were offered a very exciting gift of the Lexia Learning system online program which supports the student in the home environment with supplemental service at a very low cost as a complimentary service to reading tutoring.  This was made possible by a gift from a Carr Center board member who strongly believes in Reading services for disadvantaged children. (Thank You!)  Most recently the Carr Center was granted by Zanesville Noon Rotary  a gift of decodable books by the FlyLeaf Publications to be used by all tutors in our reading service. The photos in them are enchanting and will engage every reader. Our goal this year is to find financial support for services to those families whose children struggle with reading.

I have a 9 year old son who just finished 3rd grade. He is a great reader but struggled with reading comprehension and this past fall, he did not get the required score on the OAA to go on to fourth grade. I tried everything I knew to help him but it just wasn't working. I use to be the nurse at The Carr Center and the director, Kim Hosler, reached out to me after hearing of my frustration and told me about a reading program called Core 5 that I could obtain from the center. I was very grateful but, honestly, wasn't sure there was anything that was going to help. I was so wrong. Core 5 was very easy for my son to use in our home, and he actually enjoyed it. And the best part is he passed the required tests to be promoted to fourth grade!! I can't thank Kim and The Carr Center enough for helping my son and providing him with this wonderful reading program. If anyone's child is struggling like mine was, I highly recommend contacting them. It is a wonderful organization, and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
